The Role of the English Language Professional Organization
English language professional organizations such as National Council of Teachers of English work to promote the importance of English development in order to prepare students for society. The role of these organizations is to question, try and modify theories and strategies for teaching English, while making sure all students have equal access to curriculum and learning.
The NCTE mission statement says, "The Council promotes the development of literacy, the use of language to construct personal and public worlds and to achieve full participation in society, through the learning and teaching of English and the related arts and sciences of language.“
At our school, we want to work towards the same goal, modifying to fit the needs of our own students. As our first discussion, I would like to develop an updated mission statement for the English Department.
